This impressive engraved goblet was created to celebrate Queen Elizabeth II's accession to the throne of England and coronation. Crafted by Thomas Goode & Co. around the coronation on June 2nd 1953, this vessel would have been a treasured souvenir of the joyous occasions. The historic events are marked by an engraving around the rim of the glass, which reads: "The Coronation of Queen Elizabeth II, Accession February 8th 1952". The form is further adorned by the monarch's crowned initials, a Tudor rose and the motto "Honi soit qui mal y pense" (Evil to him who evil thinks), which symbolizes the Order of the Garter, an ancient order of knighthood of which the Queen is Sovereign. The goblet is completed by a commemorative silver coin contained within the stem of the glass.
